Paralyzed Dogs

Completely Paralysed Princess

We have another beautiful dog, a cocker whose front and back legs are paralysed.
We continue her treatment and need a muscle strenghtened medicine called mytropin.
She can feel the pain. We look after, feed and clean her as volunteers.
We still have hope. Our mother Gül Sıramun brought a walker which made us very happy.
We took Princess out immediately to take some fresh air. We appreciate this.
Her daughter also sent diapers, food and pasta.

Help us for our paralysed dogs

It is really very difficult to take care of a paralysed dog. You usually do not see paralysed dogs in most of the shelters and rehabilitation centres. We have 15 paralysed dogs here. Especially at summer, these dogs have to be cleaned frequently. As they cannot move, the urine irritates their perineums. So they need more attention naturally. The numbers of the volunteers are not enough. Please be a volunteer and help us for taking care of these dogs. We, the volunteers are more efficient with the new ones joining us. If you are sensitive about these animals and want to help us, you should take this responsibility.

By the way, we will be glad if you bring some shampoo, gloves and towells Help us for our paralysed dogs  Not only for paralysed ones, but we need help for the small racial pets. It is time for their haircut and we need support for this. At least, patting their head will be a big help during the haircut.

Paralysed Zarife

The wounds of our paralysed girl Zarife are healed.
She used her carriage for the first time and went out to the garden. She was very happy and
adopted her carriage immediately.
3rd March, 2009
Zarife was found by the volunteers after a crash. She was sent to a clinic and paralysed
because of the injuries on her spine. Our volunteers brought her to me in order to take the
measures for her carriage. She was in the car. When I opened the car door, an awful infection
smell spread around. The first sentence that came from my mouth was: This doggy needs
treatment before carriage. The volunteers said that Zarife had been already taken care of in
a clinic. However, the attendance of a paralysed dog is really difficult and exacting issue.
Few people can bare the smell so for this reason it is usually not been done properly in some
veterinary clinics. If it has been done correctly, Zarife would not been in this condition now.
We immediately cleaned and dressed her wounds. The wound appearing was on her right hip,
however there was also another bump on her left hip which was not seen because of the hairs
on it. If he was vetted carefully in the clinic, they would probably notice the wound in her left
hip. We shaved that area and dressed the wound which was not enough. Also antibiotics were
needed. We started antibiotics treatment hoping that we were not too late. Our priority is to
save her life first and then make her walk.
Our daughter Zarife is relieved now. She is sharing the same blanket with her paralysed
friends. Our old fellow Lady accompanies them and cheers them up.16th February.

First time in Yedikule once again

There are many paralysed dogs brought to Yedikule in 9 years, but we have never seen a
dog paralysed from his front legs. Our boy Ferit unlike the other dogs was injured from his
frontarms caused by a car accident. Our carriages were designed for the dogs who cannot use
their back legs. We continued the treatment of Ferit and we started to look for a solution as
we are sorry for seeing him dragging his body on the ground. Our volunteer mother Aysen
investigated this issue and found the traces of the carriages which are very few and sent us the
photos. After a price search, we learnt that it was very expensive which is 1000 USD. It was
not possible for us to gather that amount of money in these times of economic crises. It will
be unfair to our other dogs to pay this money as our shelter needs other urgent needs.
Guess what we did. We examined the sample photos and bought the materials by looking at it
and our volunteer dad Metin made the installation and completed the carriage after 2 days.
We made our opening today. Our dog Ferit was verry happy with his carriage and wagged
his tail all day long. He is a little bit slow but we hope he will be faster some time later. As
Yedikule family, we lead the way again. We made the first carriage for our paralysed dog
from his frontarms and raised his life quality a little bit. We are extremely happy.

Our girl Karacan

We have found our girl Karacan after a traffic accident in Silivrikapi 3 months ago. She was paralysed from her back legs. We did not give up and continue her treatment.
